Saudi Arabia and Serbia are strengthening their ties, with both nations actively pursuing partnerships across various sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, and trade. Recent discussions between the two countries have focused on collaborative energy initiatives, advancements in information and communications technology, and agricultural synergies. These talks also addressed increasing the presence of Serbian companies in the Saudi market and enhancing Saudi investment in Serbia.
In a pivotal meeting held in Belgrade, Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed Elkhereiji and Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Duric took a significant step by signing an agreement to waive visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and official passports. This agreement is anticipated to streamline official interactions between the nations, fostering deeper diplomatic relations.
The economic relationship between Saudi Arabia and Serbia has seen substantial growth over the years. Bilateral trade figures surged to $121 million by 2025, which is nearly nine times the volume recorded back in 2012. The upward trend continued into the first half of 2026, with trade reaching $130.4 million—a remarkable 152% increase compared to the same timeframe of the previous year.
Looking ahead, both countries are gearing up for major international events, with EXPO 2027 set to take place in Belgrade and EXPO 2030 slated for Riyadh. These expos are expected to open up further avenues for investment, business collaborations, and knowledge exchange. Saudi Arabia has already confirmed its participation in EXPO 2027, where it plans to highlight its strides in economic development, innovation, and cultural and investment opportunities.
In addition to these activities, Saudi Arabia and Serbia are exploring potential collaborations in science and technology. Serbia is also preparing to take part in the Saudi Food exhibition in Jeddah, showcasing over 50 Serbian companies, which underscores the expanding scope of their economic partnership.
