In a joint effort to bolster food security in Yemen, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office have pledged a combined $10 million. This initiative, designed to aid vulnerable communities and enhance long-term resilience, will be executed by the UN World Food Programme across several Yemeni governorates, including Al-Mahrah, Hadramout, Aden, Al-Dhale, and Lahij.
The funding, equally split between KSrelief and the UK, aims to provide conditional cash transfers that improve food access and restore vital infrastructure. As part of this comprehensive plan, the project seeks to guide families away from dependency on emergency food aid, fostering a path towards self-reliance. This initiative will serve as a critical support system for communities that have been struggling amidst Yemen’s ongoing humanitarian crisis.
In addition to direct food assistance, the program encompasses vocational training and support for local governance. By building capacities at the community level, the project aims to ensure sustainable management and governance of local assets, thereby empowering Yemeni communities to maintain and improve their livelihoods in the long term.
This partnership is a component of Saudi Arabia’s extensive humanitarian outreach through KSrelief. Since 2015, the organization has been instrumental in implementing over 4,400 aid projects, with a cumulative worth exceeding $8.5 billion, across 113 countries worldwide. This ongoing commitment underscores Saudi Arabia’s strategic role in addressing global humanitarian challenges.
