by admin477351

President Donald Trump has ended all trade talks with Canada, citing an ad that he says is “selective” and “fake.” the ad, from Ontario, used a 1987 clip of Ronald Reagan .

Trump’s criticism echoed that of the Ronald Reagan  Presidential Foundation, which stated the ad used “selective audio and video” to “misrepresent” the former president’s comments.

The president seized on this, calling the ad “fraudulent” on truth social. “Based on their egregious behavior, all trade negotiations with Canada are hereby terminated,” he wrote.

The ad was Ontario’s protest against 35% US tariffs on its goods. It featured Reagan saying, “trade barriers hurt every American worker.”

The suspension of talks, confirmed by secretary of state Marco Rubio, escalates the trade war and jeopardizes a vital economic relationship. Canadian  PM Mark Carney, who met with Trump recently, has vowed to continue seeking dialogue.
