The highly anticipated trailer for “Whalefall,” a tense survival thriller featuring Austin Abrams, has been unveiled. The film is an adaptation of Daniel Kraus’ celebrated novel and tells the story of a young man who becomes trapped inside a colossal sperm whale, facing the daunting challenge of surviving with a limited air supply.

Produced by 20th Century Studios and Imagine Entertainment, “Whalefall” is slated to hit Indian cinemas on October 16. The narrative centers on Jay Gardiner, portrayed by Abrams, a young diver grappling with the recent loss of his father, a role filled by Josh Brolin. In a quest to find his father’s remains, Jay ventures to California’s Central Coast, leading him to a dangerous underwater journey.

Jay’s expedition takes a nightmarish twist when he is swallowed whole by a massive sperm whale. With only an hour’s worth of oxygen, he must draw on his instincts and the survival skills instilled by his father to navigate this dire situation. The story blends elements of an underwater adventure with the intense psychological pressure of a survival scenario, while also delving into Jay’s bond with his deceased father.

The film’s director, co-writer, and producer, Brian Duffield, shared insights into the production process, highlighting the construction of a whale set on a sound stage in Studio City, California, where the team spent the summer filming. Duffield collaborated with Kraus on the screenplay, ensuring the film remains true to the essence of the original novel.

“Whalefall” boasts a talented cast, including Elisabeth Shue, John Ortiz, Jane Levy, and Emily Rudd, alongside Abrams and Brolin. With its unique premise, the film offers a fresh take on the classic survival story, immersing the audience in an intense narrative of a person caught in an unthinkable predicament. Moviegoers in India can look forward to experiencing this gripping story when it premieres on October 16.
