Musk’s War on Wikipedia: Grokipedia Launched with AI and Right-Wing Bias

by admin477351

Elon Musk has escalated his campaign against established information sources by launching Grokipedia. This new online encyclopedia, explicitly designed to counter Wikipedia, relies on artificial intelligence and aligns with the right-wing ideology Musk promotes on his social media platform, X.

For at least a month, Musk has been planning this rival, calling an AI encyclopedia “super important for civilization.” Unlike Wikipedia, which is written and edited by a global community of volunteers, Grokipedia has no human authors. All content is generated and “fact-checked” by Musk’s AI, Grok.

This launch is the latest step in Musk’s crusade against what he calls the “mainstream media,” including outlets like NPR and the New York Times, which Wikipedia often cites. Grokipedia’s content appears designed to reflect the conservative talking points that dominate Musk’s platform X.

Initial analysis of Grokipedia shows a significant slant. The entry for the January 6 insurrection validates the disproven lie of “widespread claims of voting irregularities” in the 2020 election. It also reframes the attack as a “dispute” and a “legitimate expression of grievances,” while downplaying Trump’s involvement.

The platform’s reliability is also in question, with journalists already spotting clear inaccuracies, such as a false claim linking pornography to the Aids epidemic. The project idea was suggested by David Sacks, a former Trump administration official, further highlighting its political leanings.
