Alliance in the Crosshairs: North Blasts US-ROK Sub Pact

by admin477351

The alliance between the United States and South Korea is once again in the crosshairs of Pyongyang. On Tuesday, North Korea condemned a new submarine deal between the allies, warning of a “nuclear domino” effect. The commentary described the pact as a “dangerous attempt at confrontation,” targeting the strategic partnership.

The deal was announced last week by President Lee Jae Myung. It secures U.S. backing for South Korea to expand its authority over uranium enrichment and spent-fuel reprocessing. North Korea views this joint effort as a major threat, predicting it will spark a “hot arms race.”

This attack on the alliance comes just a day after Seoul proposed military talks to prevent border clashes. President Lee has sought to engage the North without preconditions, but the North views the alliance’s actions as the primary obstacle. The submarine deal is seen as proof of hostile intent.

The “nuclear domino” warning implies that the alliance is destabilizing the region. North Korea is arguing that the US and South Korea are responsible for the rising tension. This narrative attempts to weaken the legitimacy of the alliance.

North Korea has yet to respond to the offer for military talks. The focus on the alliance suggests that the North views the submarine deal as a systemic issue. The region remains divided by alliance politics.
