Paranoia Defense: Bolsonaro Says Drug-Induced Fear Led to Attack on Ankle Monitor

by admin477351

Jair Bolsonaro is using paranoia as his main defense for tampering with his electronic ankle monitor, claiming it was brought on by a combination of prescription drugs. He testified that the paranoia and hallucinations led to a “psychotic attack” during which he became convinced the device was secretly recording his every word and action.

The former president offered this explanation after federal police arrested him on suspicion of preparing to flee Brazil for a foreign embassy to evade his 27-year prison sentence for a failed coup. Authorities noted interference with his tracking equipment, which they viewed as evidence of an escape attempt.

The dramatic shift in his explanation—from claiming “curiosity” to detailing a “psychotic attack”—has fueled intense skepticism among political analysts. His testimony only adds another layer of controversy to his already high-profile legal battle.
