Saudi Arabia and France Forge Diversified Economic Partnership Beyond Oil

by admin477351

The economic partnership between Saudi Arabia and France is undergoing a transformation, as the focus of trade shifts in line with Saudi Arabia’s attempts to broaden its economic base beyond the oil sector. In 2025, France’s exports to Saudi Arabia reached nearly $4.5 billion, while imports from the Kingdom were about $3.7 billion. This represents a notable departure from previous trends where Saudi Arabia usually had a trade surplus with France.

This alteration in trade dynamics is partly due to France’s reduced imports of oil and petroleum products. As France has diversified its energy portfolio, alongside the impact of lower oil prices in 2025, the financial worth of energy imports from Saudi Arabia has diminished. Consequently, the trade balance has shifted, reflecting a broader economic realignment.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s appetite for French goods has grown, encompassing a variety of sectors such as aerospace, industrial equipment, pharmaceuticals, technology, and luxury items like perfumes and cosmetics. This expanding demand illustrates the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to implement its Vision 2030 strategy, which aims to minimize reliance on oil income and cultivate new industrial sectors.

French enterprises are increasingly eyeing Saudi Arabia for business opportunities as the Kingdom’s investment landscape and economic activities flourish beyond traditional oil-related sectors. This evolving trade relationship underscores both nations’ adaptation to changing global economic conditions and their commitment to fostering diverse economic ties.
