FREELANDER is stepping into a transformative era as the concept of mobility extends beyond traditional transportation to encompass experiences defined by intelligent technology, connectivity, and adaptable lifestyles. As the automotive landscape shifts, FREELANDER aims to establish itself as a high-end intelligent mobility brand tailored to the demands of modern drivers and international markets.
The original Land Rover Freelander made its debut in 1997, merging all-terrain prowess with passenger comfort, versatility, and practical usability. This model quickly became synonymous with freedom, adventure, and modern exploration, significantly influencing the development of the urban off-road SUV segment. From 1997 to 2002, it was Europe’s top-selling SUV for five consecutive years, solidifying its status as a prominent British SUV of its time, while reflecting a growing consumer appetite for mobility solutions that offer exploration, flexibility, and comfort.
Fast forward nearly three decades, and FREELANDER is once again evolving. Introduced at the Night of FREELANDER during the IBS (Chery International Business Summit), the brand is embarking on a new journey as a British premium intelligent all-terrain marque, a venture developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover and Chery. This new strategy aims to blend the brand’s storied heritage with cutting-edge intelligent technologies, connected ecosystems, and contemporary luxury mobility experiences. This shift mirrors broader trends in the automotive industry, where consumers increasingly value connected technologies, digital ecosystems, and vehicles that cater to both urban and outdoor settings.
FREELANDER has ambitious plans for the future, including the launch of six new SUV models over the next five years and expanding its reach to over 90 countries with more than 1,100 global touchpoints. The vehicles will be built on a global architecture that accommodates Left-Hand Drive, Right-Hand Drive, and European Union specifications. The Middle East is targeted as FREELANDER’s initial strategic international market, highlighting the region’s significance in the premium automotive sector and its rising demand for intelligent mobility solutions.
The brand’s future development strategy is anchored in three core principles: British Craftsmanship, Smart Confidence, and All-Terrain Freedom. The newly unveiled FREELANDER 8 features panoramic digital displays, intelligent cockpit technologies, immersive interaction systems, and second-row zero-gravity seating designed for enhanced comfort and connectivity during travel. Equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, the intelligent cockpit can support up to eight displays, facilitating dynamic interaction and sophisticated rendering systems. With an emphasis on all-terrain capability, the vehicle includes the i-ATS Intelligent All-Terrain System, supporting nine terrain modes, as well as advanced driver assistance systems, autonomous parking, and smartphone-based vehicle retrieval functions. FREELANDER’s manufacturing processes are conducted at the Chery Jaguar Land Rover Intelligent Manufacturing Base, the company’s first complete manufacturing facility outside the UK, integrating state-of-the-art robotics and green manufacturing technologies to ensure premium vehicle production for global markets.
